Discovering Çanakkale
Bearing the traces of the thousands of years of human history, Anatolia has always been a centre of attraction with its natural, cultural and archeological beauties. Located on both sides (Europe and Asia) of the Dardanelles Strait, Çanakkale has been one of the major areas of settlement throughout the ages in which many events that changed the course of history took place. From the first philosophers to gods, this land has witnessed many firsts and is like an open-air museum.

Alexander the Great set foot on Asia here and the Turks used this location to cross to Europe for the first time in history. It was also the first city that the Ottomans established on the Asian side of the Dardanelles Strait. The first world map was drawn here, at Kala-i Sultaniye, by the great Ottoman Admiral Piri Reis, who was born in Gallipoli about five hundred years ago...

Çanakkale has been a home to some of the oldest settlements of history, such as Troy, Alexandria Troas and Assos. It is an area that witnessed the Battle of Gallipoli, one of the most bloody wars of history, and with the historical and natural beauties of the Ida mountains where the first beauty contest took place, Bozcaada (Tenedos) and Gökçeada (Imros), Çanakkale has many cultural and touristic attractions.

It is also one of the most prominent cities in cultural tourism with the Gallipoli Peninsula Historical National Park, Troia Historical National Park, which is included in Unesco’s World Heritage List, ethnography museums, an archeology museum, several excavation sites and many other archeological sites.

Çimenlik Castle, the Ottoman minelayer Nusrat, Aynalı Çarşı, Clock Tower, Kordon (waterfront) and Kilitbahir Castle which is situated on the European Side are only some of the places to see at the city centre...
